The industrialization of tourism «Euro Weekly News

Ecologist Fernando Valladares has warned Marbella against the industrialization of tourism.

Fernando Valladares has a PhD in biology, heads the Ecology and Global Change group at the National Museum of Natural Sciences and is an associate professor at Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. He is one of the most committed Spanish scientists in the fight against climate change and has given lectures in Marbella.

During a conference at the American College of Spain in Puerto Banús, the researcher warned of the risks of the “industrialization of tourism”, which he said “is not sustainable over time”, Marbella 24 Horas reported.

He warned that humans have “transgressed planetary boundaries” and that as a result the climate is experiencing the drastic changes that scientific studies have documented, he said.

He believes that this situation points to “the end of the cycle of the dominant civilization” and encouraged teachers and students to take advantage of the situation to train their self-critical vision to undo everything, “we still have time to change” .

He also warned against the spread of false news or “fake news” circulating on social networks about the non-existence of climate change. “We need to teach people to analyze pieces of information, where they come from, who says them…. In short: look critically,” he said.

He concluded by drawing attention to the fact that “we must not be paralyzed by fear, but must act to change course.”
