World Earth Day 2024: the urgent call for environmental redemption | Trending now

People born of mothers find their sustenance on earth and call it our shared mother. But do we do that while we depend on the earth’s resources for survival? Unfortunately, our actions often exploit our planet instead of nurturing it, tipping Earth’s delicate balance.

People are born of mothers, but their livelihood takes place on earth, which also gives it the title of our mother. We depend on the natural elements of the earth for our survival. Just as humans cannot survive after birth without their mother’s care, they are equally dependent on the earth and its resources. But have you ever thought about what people on earth answer? Unfortunately, instead of giving back, people often exploit natural resources for personal gain. This damaging trend has persisted for years and has led to a decline in the balance of the earth.

Environmental changes are underway, but the benefits of conservation efforts remain elusive. Despite ongoing initiatives to purify numerous rivers, news of their purification remains scarce. Deliberations on air purification and soil conservation are also underway. Mere discourse is insufficient; tangible actions are absolutely necessary. Governments must take important steps to preserve the planet, and political parties must prioritize this issue in their agendas. This year’s Earth Day theme is ‘Planet vs. Plastic’, aimed at raising awareness about escalating plastic pollution and advocating for corrective action.

SOS from Earth

Nowadays, microplastics are widely used to improve the shine of cosmetic products. Unfortunately, these microplastics end up in rivers and seas through bathing and washing, accumulating in our bodies as a reservoir of toxins. Microplastics pose a gradual threat and can cause significant damage over time. Effective regulation of plastic use can limit a lot of damage, making government intervention in this matter necessary.

Planting trees is essential for preserving the earth. As we continue to exploit the planet, we face increasing consequences. Planting trees is especially crucial to combat pollution. Despite several efforts to clean rivers across the country, they remain polluted. This is often because waste collected during cleaning is dumped back onto riverbanks and eventually ends up back in waterways. However, this waste can serve as valuable fertilizer for fields. Such land is valuable and can significantly increase agricultural productivity if used effectively.

Earth’s balance depends on dense forests. With the development of Indore into a smart city, concrete expanses have replaced natural habitats. In response, it is imperative to prioritize conservation efforts. Establishing small forests with diverse ecosystems in urban areas is crucial. These green spaces will not only provide oxygen, but also serve as vital components of urban lung ecosystems. Similarly, similar forest initiatives should be taken in other parts of the city to promote biodiversity and ecological balance.
