New Look’s emissions targets have been approved by the SBTi

FASHION RETAIL NEWS UK

New Look has received approval for its emissions targets from the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

The fashion retailer has a short-term goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in scope 1 and 2 by 42% by 2030, and reduce emissions in scope 3 by the same amount and within the same time frame.

Meanwhile, New Look aims to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2040.

The retailer launched its ‘Kind To Our Core’ sustainability strategy in January 2022 and has an overall target to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2040.

Sue Fairley, head of sustainability at New Look, said: “Having our targets endorsed by the SBTi has been a goal of ours since we launched our sustainability strategy two years ago, so this feels like a milestone for us.

“The progress we are making on ‘E’, ‘S’ and ‘G’ – in equal measure – is a testament to the strength of our partnerships and the way we work with others, and we are pleased to We are moving quickly towards our SBTi goals.”

New Look will provide an update on progress towards its SBTi targets in its annual sustainability report this summer.
