Like Donald Trump, Akufo-Addo must be tried when he leaves office – Martin Kpebu

Lawyer Martin Kpebu has stated that he plans to take legal action against President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo upon his departure from office.

During a panel discussion on TV3 last weekend, Kpebu discussed his plans to hold President Akufo-Addo accountable for spending over GH¢500 million on fumigation exercises, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He referred to an investigative report by Manasseh Azure, which reportedly revealed irregularities surrounding fumigation costs.

Kpebu claimed that the president would face legal consequences similar to those of former US President Donald Trump, who has been under legal investigation.

“What I am seeking for President Akufo-Addo is that when he leaves office, I will file a complaint so that we can prosecute him for the over GH¢500 million we spent on fumigating schools, etc. after Covid, when it wasn’t necessary.

“That is the investigation that Manasseh did and with which he won the West African Journalist of the Year,” onuaonline.com quoted him as saying during the panel discussion.

When the host asked if he thought the president would prosecute what he said, he replied, “Oh yeah, we’ll see.”

“President Akufo-Addo, just as Donald Trump appears in court, Akufo-Addo will also appear in court. The (district and municipal) assemblies said it would be a financial loss, they didn’t think fumigation was necessary,” he said of Manasseh’s report.

The COVID-19 money scandal revealed that estimates from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development showed that the two ministries spent about GH¢500 million cedis on the exercise.

Other ministries also conducted their own fumigation and disinfection exercise.
