Extortion fraud targets the Lincoln family

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln family was the target of an extortion scam Wednesday.

Police were dispatched to a home near NW 53rd and Holdrege Street for a possible home invasion.

The reporter said a colleague of hers received a call from an unknown man saying he was holding the victim’s wife and child hostage.

The unknown caller also threatened to cause harm if the victim did not tell him where they kept their money, LPD said.

According to police, the victim left work to go home.

Officers arrived at the home and found everyone safe.

LPD determined the call was a scam.

The victim reported that the caller ID on the original phone call was the same number as his wife’s phone.
