SC will issue interim bail order to Arvind Kejriwal on 10th

NEW DELHI,

The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on May 10 on granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise tax scam. Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who headed the bench hearing Kejriwal’s petition against his arrest case, said, “We will pronounce the interim order (on bail) on Friday. The main case regarding the challenge to arrest will also be heard on the same day.” Justice Khanna, who was in another bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Bela M Trivedi, made the comment after Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the Center in a case related to Goods and Services Tax, sought clarification had asked about the mention of Kejriwal’s plea.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was arrested on March 21 and is currently under judicial custody in Tihar Jail. On May 7, the court, also comprising Justice Dipankar Datta, had reserved its judgment on the interim bail for Kejriwal. The two-judge bench had stood up without passing an order on granting interim bail to Kejriwal so that he could campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. The court had reserved its decision after hearing the arguments of senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi and Additional Advocate General SV Raju, who appeared for Kejriwal and the ED respectively.
