The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edudzi Tamakloe, has criticized President Akufo-Addo over his comments on his favored successor.

Edudzi Tamakloe noted that the President’s statements are a deliberate attempt to evade responsibility should the NDC come to power on December 7, 2024.

It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo informed the Wa Naa on April 24, 2024 that he cannot accept former President John Dramani Mahama as his successor.

According to President Akufo-Addo, he removed John Mahama from the presidency and later defeated him again in another election. Akufo-Addo believes that the former president should not return to office as he is likely to undo all the good works and development projects of the NPP government.

While at Wa Naa Palace, President Akufo-Addo said: “Wa Naa, as you know, this is an election year. On December 7, 2024, the people of Ghana will elect a new President and a new House of Parliament. When the elections are held, I will come here to bid you a proper farewell and thank you for the cooperation I received from you and your leaders during my tenure as President.”

He added that on his next visit, he would meet Vice President Dr. Bawumia will bring with him who he wants as his successor.

Reacting to the President’s comments, Tamakloe said: “The presidency of Ghana is not a legacy of chieftaincy. The presidency is about democracy, as we have practiced all along. I say that I am renouncing the seat, and that is why I want my son to take over the presidency. Akufo-Addo had an election, and he was voted for in the election. Nothing more, nothing less.”

Edudzi added on Wednesday, May 8, that it is not in the president’s mouth to determine who will or will not be his successor, accusing him of fearing responsibility for the elections. rot that has engulfed his government.

“It is clear that Akufo-Addo should not expect Mahama to continue with the looting. Is it the corruption, the naked theft that characterizes this government? Certainly not. Mahama will never engage in these dangerous and nation-destroying activities,” he said. .

It is clear to him that Nana Akufo-Addo wants to be succeeded by someone who will sweep all corrupt deals under the carpet.

“He wants Bawumia to cover him up; that is why he is trying to preach the negative sermon about John Mahama everywhere. But he must be assured that when the NDC comes to power, we will investigate every bad deal and He knows that Bawumia will sweep all looting, bribery, broad daylight theft and all illegal deals under the carpet, hence his desperate appeal to Ghanaians not to vote for Mahama,” he added.
