Medical debt relief

This month, we are proud to announce our successful efforts in addressing medical debt in Michigan. By securing $4.5 million in the 2024 budget, we are providing significant assistance to individuals across the state. There is already concerted action in Ingham County, using local and state resources to eliminate medical debt. With strategic partnerships, this funding translates to an estimated $450 million in assistance for approximately 180,000 Michiganders.

New “MI Solar for All” program

Earlier this week, Governor Whitmer announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the state of Michigan $159 million to reduce the cost of community and rooftop solar for thousands of low-income and disadvantaged community households in the statewide, saving eligible households. 20% discount on their energy bills and extra meaningful benefits.

Funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) will be administered through the newly created MI Solar for All (MI SFA) program.

As lead sponsor of the Clean Energy Future Plan, I was proud to lead the way in addressing climate change here in Michigan, while also helping workers, communities and lower-income residents. This federal funding will allow us to expand our efforts to improve access to safe, clean, and affordable energy for everyone in our state.
