Shocked and heartbroken: Peter Mabuse mourned as tributes poured in after star’s tragic end in Pretoria

Following the news of the popular entertainer from Pretoria Peter Mabuse was gruesomely shot dead this weekend and tributes poured in for the murdered businessman, DJ and MC.

Mashata, as he was affectionately known, and an unnamed man were reportedly driving away from his All Back With Mashata event at Epozini Lifestyle in Soshanguve in the early hours of Sunday when the vehicle they were traveling in was shot at by an unknown number of attackers .

According to a statement from Klaas Mabela, a friend of the deceased, told Soshanguve police, traffic and distractions on the road caused the driver to slow down as they left the establishment. During this time, shots were reportedly fired into the passenger side of the vehicle, where Mashata was sitting.

“The driver then saw blood from the deceased and sped away from the scene, driving to Akasia Hospital Netcare for medical attention as he noticed (the) deceased was unresponsive when he shouted his name,” the statement said. shared on social media, read.

“On arrival at the hospital, the complainant claimed that he did indeed see gunshot wounds on the deceased’s head and his body lying in a pool of blood.”


He succumbed to injuries in hospital, while the passenger he was traveling with sustained injuries, reportedly in the form of a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. Police have since opened murder and attempted murder files.

Reacting to the news of Mashata’s death, fellow DJ Lerato Kganyago took to her Instagram stories and said: “Le re robile di pelo (You broke our hearts)”.

Another DJ, Lamiez Holworthy, said: “At this rate, no one is safe. We live among heartless animals.”

Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club, of which Mashata was an avid supporter and announcer at matches, expressed his condolences to his family and friends.

“We pray that the Almighty comforts and strengthens the Mabuse family, its fans, friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry,” the club said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and everyone who was touched by his talent, entertainment and laughter.”

His employer, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), said it provided the Mabuse family, friends, colleagues and students with the support they needed during “this difficult time”.

“The family must be given the space and time to process their great loss and to honor the memory of the deceased in a dignified manner,” the institution said.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the Mabuse family, friends, colleagues and TUT students.”

Mashata is not the first personality to have been shot dead in Pretoria in recent times.

In January, DJ Vettys was shot when he left a performance. He has since made a full recovery but was in critical condition.

Other famous Pretoria personalities who have been shot and killed include Vusi Ma R5, DJ Sumbodygood friends with DJ Vettys, and owner of Lesutu Pub and Grill Moshe Lesutu.
