OPEN SKY APRIL 24, 2024 WEDNESDAY: PARENTS, BE GOOD

OPEN SKY APRIL 24, 2024 MEMORIZE: In all things you show a pattern of good works: in doctrine you show incorruption, earnestness, and sincerity. Titus 2:7

OPEN HEAVEN APRIL 24, 2024 BIBLE READING Titus 2:1-8

1 But speak the things that become sound doctrine:

2 That the old men be sober, serious, temperate, and sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

3 Also the aged women, that they conduct themselves as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, and to love their children,

5 To be modest and chaste, to remain at home, good and obedient to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

6 Young men also urge to be sober-minded.

7 In all things you show a pattern of good works: in doctrine you show incorruption, earnestness, uprightness,

8 Sound speech, which cannot be condemned; that he who is of the opposite part may be ashamed, because he has nothing evil to say against you.

OPEN SKY 24 APRIL MESSAGE OF 2024

Our Bible reading for today says that the elderly should behave well to influence the young to behave well too – that is how it should be.

In addition to words, the younger generation learns more by observing. They can not only hear what you say, but also see what you do.

If you want them to behave properly, first show them consistently that you do what you ask of them.

If you lie to get a favor for your child at school, and then turn around to tell that child not to lie to you, you are cheating yourself.

If they barely see you praying and reading your Bible, you can’t turn around and ask them to read their Bible.

You have to be bold to say something like that to the young people

Apostle Paul said:

Do the things you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you. -Philippians 4:9

Our reminder verse for today says to show yourself as an example of good works.

Many older people usually say that in order to catch the young people, they have to dress like young people and use their slang.

What they don’t know is that when they start looking and talking like them, they are endorsing their lifestyle and some of their negative actions.

They cannot change them that way, but will only reinforce their negative behavior.

Instead, they should be a standard for young people to follow.

More often than not, the young know the truth and when they do the wrong things, they actually expect the elders to correct them.

Now imagine their confusion when they see their parents doing the same things they want to be corrected about.

In Yorubaland, where I come from, we call elders who behave childishly ‘agbaya’, which means ‘shameless old guy’.

God is counting on the elders to guide the youth in how to behave so that they have a better future.

God also expects the young to humbly submit to their elders.

Finally, Titus 2:2 says that elders are to be sober, courageous, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, and in patience.

As an elder, let this be your watchword. Don’t be agbaya.

OPEN SKY APRIL 24, 2024 HYMN

RCCG HYMN 20: Rise! Stand up for Jesus

1 Get up! stand up for Jesus!
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer any loss:
From victory to victory
He will lead his army,
Until every enemy is vanquished
And Christ is indeed Lord.

2 Get up! stand up for Jesus!
The trumpet band obeys;
On to the mighty conflict
On this glorious day.
You who are men, serve Him now
Against countless enemies;
Let courage rise in the face of danger.
And force against force opposes.

3 Get up! stand up for Jesus!
Stand alone in His strength;
The arm of flesh will fail you;
You dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel Armor,
And watching for prayer,
Where duty calls, or danger calls,
Never be disappointed with that.

4 Get up! stand up for Jesus!
The battle won’t last long:
This day the noise of battle,
Next the victor’s song;
To him who overcomes
A crown of life will be;
He, with the King of glory,
Will reign forever.
