OpenAI has made strides towards launching an AI-powered search engine, aiming to tackle challenges Googlingdominance in the field. According to a recent report, OpenAI plans to unveil its Google Search competitor on Monday, May 13, which could potentially overshadow Google’s upcoming developer conference, Google I/O 2024, scheduled for Tuesday, May 14.

Google’s annual developer conference is known for unveiling major announcements, especially in the areas of AI and search integration. However, the tech giant could now find itself in competition with OpenAI, one of its leading AI rivals, which is set to launch its AI-enhanced search engine just ahead of Google’s event.

Although OpenAI has not officially confirmed the launch date, recent reports have indicated the imminent arrival of its search engine product. Bloomberg previously reported that the new search engine would directly challenge Google and Perplexity, an existing AI search engine. OpenAI’s offering is expected to allow users to ask questions to ChatGPT, a chatbot, which will respond with answers sourced from various online platforms, including news articles, blog posts and Wikipedia. Additionally, search results can include relevant images if necessary.
