Charges have been filed against the man accused of shooting a sheriff’s deputy in West Covina

An arraignment is scheduled Friday for an alleged gang member accused of attempted murder of a peace officer and other charges for allegedly shooting a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy in the back at a West Covina intersection — wearing a bulletproof vest that saved the police officer’s life.

Raymundo Duran, 47, of Covina, will appear in a West Covina courtroom in connection with the April 22 attack on Deputy Samuel Aispuro.

The deputy was in full uniform on his sheriff’s motorcycle and was stopped at the intersection of southbound Barranca Street at East Garvey Avenue, Sheriff Robert Luna said last month. The bullet struck Aispuro in the back, but did not penetrate his bulletproof vest, according to the sheriff.
