The New Patriotic Party hierarchy in Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency in the Western Region has observed what it described as malicious publications about their parliamentary candidate, lawyer Barbara Oteng Gyasi.

According to the party, the publications and claims are not only incorrect, but also harmful to the reputation and integrity of the candidate.

“As the NPP believes in the importance of honest and fair political discourse, the party finds it disturbing that such disinformation is being sanctioned and spearheaded by its main constituency opponent, the National Democratic Congress.

“It has become necessary for us to remind voters of the sheer evil propaganda and mischief mounted by the NDC Communications Office in Prestea Huni-Valley against the lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi in the 2020 elections, which has undermined the development of the constituency to a standstill”

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency Communications Director, Mr Isaac Addo, and copied to Daniel Kaku.

“This is due to the lack of a competent representative to lobby and initiate projects for the benefit of the voters,” he stated.

“It is incomprehensible how NDC Prestea Huni-Valley welcomed the news of the selection of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, citing a victory for women’s participation in politics, but at every opportunity they attack the personality of another woman in politics that has distinguished itself. and brought massive development to Prestea Huni-Valley, including incubators to save the lives of children at Prestea Government Hospital, the construction of a state-of-the-art two-storey building, Children’s Block for the hospital, and ensured that the municipality benefited from the national cake by lobbying for various projects,” he said.

To set the record straight, the NPP hierarchy said Barbara Oteng Gyasi has never physically or verbally assaulted anyone because this is perpetuated by the NDC.

“Hon. Barbara Oteng Gyasi plied the said route as part of her routine tour within the constituency and made a stop at the designated area to advise the person in question to desist from spreading false allegations about her involvement in the Galamsey on the failing radio stations. whereupon she would have no choice but to take legal action against him to prove his allegations.

He stressed that “the said person, in view of his guilty conscience, took it in stride when he saw Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi sitting in the vehicle, and thus it is not true that anyone would suggest that the lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng -Gyasi confronted or verbally abused a member of the NDC communications team.”

“It must be emphasized that one person’s right to freedom of expression ends where another’s right not to be defamed begins, and with the right to freedom of expression comes a responsibility.”

“We further debunk allegations that lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi is involved in illegal mining (galamsey) in Prestea Huni-Valley or any other part of the country. It is unfair on the part of the NDC, that the very same woman they branded as ‘anti-galamsey’ in 2020 and begged voters to vote against her for that reason, is now being accused by the same people of involvement in illegal mining . To be clear, the former lawmaker has never been will never be involved in galamsey and will take legal action to deal with “alleged media personalities” who should know better, but for reasons best known to themselves, resorted have resorted to baseless accusations with the aim of damaging her hard-earned reputation, probably in the hope that it would create discontent for her in the upcoming general elections.”

“It should be noted that the NDC in Prestea Huni-Valley is in despair as they have been saddled with a candidate whose poor performance over the past three years is facing a resounding rejection in the constituency and as usual have initiated a calculated plan to damage the reputation of the party to smear. Lawyer Ms Barbara Oteng-Gyasi. This dubious agenda will be vigorously opposed and the truth will be brought to light at every turn,” he noted.

The statement appealed to all stakeholders including our respected Nananom, religious leaders, identifiable groups and the women groups to oppose the NDC Prestea Huni-Valley in their bid to tarnish the reputation of Hon. Lawyer Mrs. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, an illustrious daughter of Wassa, because these attacks have the potential to make other women in the constituency with the potential and desire to contribute to the progress of the constituency, withdraw from seeking a political and public office.

“However, if the NDC continues with this nefarious propaganda like they did in 2020, the nuclear power plant will respond in kind and the chips will fall where they may,” he said.
