Scandal-plagued comedian and actor Russell Brand says he is a changed man after being baptized in the River Thames by Bear Grylls.

The 49-year-old shared a photo of himself after his water baptism. He embraced TV survival expert Bear, and a friend who identified himself only as Joe.

“I was baptized and it was an incredible and profound experience,” he said in a video he posted on social media.

“Many aspects of it were very intimate and personal – the truth is, as a person who has used a lot of substances in the past and (I have) always been disappointed by its inability to bring the kind of peace and tranquility and even transcendence that I was always looking for.”

A joint investigation by several British media outlets late last year found that the actor was accused of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior in the workplace by several women between 2006 and 2013.

He was questioned by police but denies the allegations.

As the investigation continues, Russell is sharing his journey to Christianity on social media.

“I have already felt irritation. I have three children. I have a job. I have challenges. I still live in the world, but I feel a new resource has been turned on within me,” he said after his baptism.

His baptism, he said, was “an opportunity to die and be reborn.”

“An opportunity to leave the past behind and be reborn in the name of Christ.”

He added that he hopes his new journey will benefit his family his wife Laura (36), and their children Mabel (7), Peggy (5) and a son born last year whose name has not been made public.

“I am learning and I will make mistakes, but this is my path and I already feel incredibly blessed, relieved, nourished and held.

“It was an incredible experience.”
