How you can help stray animals this summer

Hidden among the busy streets of Dhaka are stray animals looking for shelter, food and most of all, a sense of safety and affection. As summer days ensue, one can only imagine how much more vulnerable these poor creatures will be, their only hope of getting through the hard times, at the hands of a human.

It doesn’t make things easier for stray animals either, as they are more susceptible to abuse and neglect given how overlooked they are by society. This leaves most animal lovers wondering how we can do our part to make their lives easier.

Whether you’re a cat or dog person and are looking for ways to help our furry friends in the summer heat, here are a few ways you can help them and make a change.

Give them food and water

The high temperatures will severely dehydrate most stray animals. Carrying a bottle of water to feed them during the day is the easiest way to provide them with temporary relief from intense weather. You can also leave a bowl of fresh water for them to drink from, which can also create a bond of trust if you do this regularly.

Building a trusting relationship with stray animals by giving them small snacks and food is also a great way to not only help them but also brighten your mood. This can also serve as a great outdoor activity with the family!

However, make sure that the food you give them is safe for consumption by both cats and dogs.

Adopt them (if you can)

If it is within your means and you have the resources to care for a pet, then adoption is the best way to support a stray! Many stray animals are looking for a cool, comfortable home amid the intense heat and adoption can provide them with this wonderful opportunity.

If this option doesn’t seem possible, you can always search the Internet for reliable individuals who are willing to care for a furry friend or talk to someone in your area who may be interested.

There are many stray animals walking around our streets. If we can receive and care for them in a safe environment, it can improve not only their lives, but our community as a whole.

Make sure the stray animal you want to adopt is safe. You should take them to a vet to check for any serious injuries and/or illnesses they may have suffered during their time on the streets and to ensure they have been vaccinated.

Raising a pet is a serious task, so if you decide to care for a stray animal, make sure you are prepared for the responsibilities that come with it.

Your adopted pet will be forever grateful for the compassion you show by caring for him.

Take action against abuse

Unfortunately, animal abuse on the streets is common and heavily overlooked, as stray animals often do not receive the same attention as regular pets. But this has to change. Stray animals are worthy and deserve our care and time, and one way we can show them grace and kindness is by protecting them from abuse.

If you encounter a stray animal being targeted, try to stop the attack and get the animal to safety. Report the attack to local authorities and ensure the community is aware of the incident.

The best way to spread the message is of course through social media. The internet is the best place to spread the word, whether it’s through a video or a short post describing the incident.

Many animal lovers and others will be made aware of such incidents and it is also a great learning tool for those looking for knowledge about animal care and stray animals in general.

Join communities

There are many communities for animal lovers in the real world and in online spaces. These spaces are a great way to connect with many people who work hard every day to help stray animals on the streets. It’s also a great way to learn tips on caring for adopted pets, and generally share the love and passion that comes with caring for our furry friends.

You can post on social media or talk to friends who may have more insight into pet care and stray animal groups. Many animal shelters are also looking for volunteers, where you can also help stray animals even better.

Volunteering to help stray animals can also be a great activity to participate in during the summer holidays. Together with friends and family, you can make a stray animal’s day even better by giving them not only resources, but also lots of love and care.
