Bukit Aman is investigating bogus scam agents after RM6.8 million in losses were reported

KUALA LUMPUR (May 9): The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has opened 49 investigation papers (IPs) regarding cases of persons posing as National Scam Response Center (NSRC) agents, resulting in losses of RM6.79 million between January and April this year. year.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the call center established last year was found to have been manipulated by a fraud syndicate as they posed as NSRC officers to dupe victims.

“The so-called ‘NSRC official’ is said to be contacting the victims to inform them that he will be canceling the victims’ phone number following complaints that it has been used in fraudulent activities.

“The call will then be transferred to another person posing as a police officer, and the victim will be instructed to follow all instructions given until the victim transfers money to the designated bank account and subsequently suffers a loss,” he said. a statement on Thursday.

He also reminded the public not to be easily misled when they receive a call from the NSRC because the call center is one-way: it only receives calls from the public and never calls anyone else.

“Any call purporting to come from the NSRC is therefore a scam, and in order to further efforts to eradicate and prevent online fraud crimes, PDRM urges affected victims to contact the NSRC on 997 to report the incident immediately to report,” he said.

NSRC is a local response center that brings together resources and expertise from the National Anti-Financial Crime Center (NFCC), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), banking institutions and telecommunications companies to receive reports from victims of cyber fraud.
