A fire broke out at the Lahore airport in the lounge, causing chaos and disrupting several international flights, including the first Hajj trips, Aaj News reported.

Quick action by the emergency services was able to keep the flames under control so that no damage was caused to anyone. However, the fire, originating from the ceiling of the immigration desk, filled the lounge with smoke, forcing the evacuation of passengers.

Images broadcast by Aaj News revealed the billowing smoke and painted a picture of the tumultuous scene. A specialist team has been mobilized to determine the cause of the fire, with airport authorities finding significant damage to the immigration counter.

The incident’s ripple effect extended to flight schedules, with the first Hajj departure and five other international flights delayed. Qatar Airways flight QR 629 was among those affected.

Despite concerns over immigration processes, incoming international flights continued to be routed to Lahore airport without diversions. The lack of an emergency declaration from airport authorities underlined efforts to bring the situation under control.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) assured the public that international flight operations were being managed from the domestic departure lounge, with the situation brought under control due to a short circuit early in the morning.

Currently, Hajj and international flights are being accommodated through domestic facilities, with the expectation that regular domestic flights will resume soon. The spokesperson emphasized that priority should be given to seamless immigration processes for arriving flights, ensuring minimal disruption during the aftermath of the incident, Aaj News reported.
