Former Norwalk man pleads guilty to fentanyl trafficking, FBI say

BRIDGEPORT – A former Norwalk resident has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of trafficking fentanyl, officials say.

In a news release on Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut said Jose De Jesus Vega-Cervantes, a 45-year-old Mexican national who last lived in Norwalk, has pleaded guilty in federal court in Bridgeport to one misdemeanor of fentanyl trafficking.

The U.S. attorney’s office said the Drug Enforcement Agency and Norwalk police officers made controlled purchases of fentanyl from Vega-Cervantes in July and August 2023. It said he was arrested on August 22, 2023, after attempting to sell a kilo of fentanyl. to a person who works in law enforcement.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Vega-Cervantes has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl. If convicted, he will face a prison sentence of a minimum of five and a maximum of forty years.
