Suspect believed to be linked to fatal Museum District shooting arrested after standoff in W. Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A wanted murder suspect is in custody after barricading himself in a West Harris County apartment for several hours.

According to Major Earl Dean of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, they responded to the complex at 2031 Westborough Drive after receiving a call about a weapons disturbance.

When they arrived, they met a woman who told them there was a man in the apartment who was possibly wanted in connection with a May 7 murder.

Dean said that after lengthy conversations with the man, SWAT was called and they continued to try to negotiate with him.

“He was communicating, we even had family members on site that he was communicating with,” Dean said.

After several hours of failed negotiations, gas was deployed and the suspect came out and surrendered. The suspect was examined by medical personnel, but authorities do not believe he was injured.

Dean identified the suspect as Tilford Anthony Joseph, 46. He was wanted on a charge of murder and a charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Authorities say he is linked to a fatal shooting in Houston’s Museum District on Tuesday morning.

Teresa Houston, 44, an Alvin ISD employee, was killed in the shooting. A Harris County Pct. 7 Constable Deputy was also involved in a shootout with the suspect after he allegedly took Houston’s black Camaro.

The officer tried to pull the suspect over, after which the suspect opened fire. During the shootout, the suspect ultimately stole the deputy’s patrol vehicle before returning to get back into the Camaro, at which point a second shootout occurred between the suspect and the deputy.

The deputy was injured when he fell and hit his head, but was expected to be OK.
