Why are orange and green boxes washing up on Texas beaches?

When the weather starts to warm up in Texas, people might head to one place: the beach!

After all, it’s not ideal to live in triple-digit temperatures day in and day out with no way to cool down. Also, air conditioners in the state need a break every now and then, right? So some Texans are heading to the beaches of the Lone Star State to swim and maybe get a nice tan.

If someone goes to a beach in Texas, chances are he or she will see something interesting. Like other animals swimming in the water with them, maybe people on jet skis. But lately, Texans have been seeing orange, green and other colored boxes appearing on the shore.

Where do these boxes come from and what can they mean? Well, the answer turns out to be quite simple.

The orange and green boxes on Texas beaches mean this

According to the Austin American-Statesman, the boxes in question did not originally come from the Lone Star State. The boxes actually come from the state of Louisiana, according to a social media post:

As you can see in the post above, these boxes help our friends in the ocean known as sea turtles. Of the 80 sent into the water, the Statesman says nearly half will make their way to the Lone Star State Beaches.

So if you found them on a beach in Texas, you wouldn’t have to worry about them being harmful. But of course you must return the box by post. However, you should not tamper with them when they are in the water.

So be smart with these Texas boxes! They help our sea turtle friends!
