Tourism leaders consider sustainability issues at the TTF Green Revolution Summit

Leaders in tourism, transport and aviation will meet in Sydney next week to discuss the urgent need to develop a local ‘green fuel’ sector and other sustainability challenges, at the Green Revolution Summit 2024 the Tourism and Transport Forum.

With the theme ‘Innovation. Persist. Advance’, the summit will be held on Thursday, May 16 at the ICC Sydney.

Margy Osmond, CEO of the Tourism and Transport Forum, advised that discussions will focus on the crucial need to invest in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), for which the industry hopes to see significant support in next week’s federal budget: “we need a local SAF or ‘green fuel’ industry to secure the future of Australia’s tourism and aviation sectors and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

“As a long-haul destination, Australia cannot afford to leave behind other destinations such as the US, Canada, Europe, Singapore, Japan and others that are already leading policies in support of SAF and direct investment.

“We are pleased with the progress the Federal Government has made to date, including the creation of the Jet Zero Council, but we cannot be complacent about the urgent need for additional support to achieve a greener future for aviation .”

The summit will also discuss challenges such as making major events more sustainable, decarbonizing public transport and expanding the use of technologies such as electric vehicles and trackless trams.

Other topics include increasing sustainability at Australian airports, protecting natural resources and providing consumers with more sustainable travel options.
