Newark Beth Israel Medical Center hosts 10th annual Women’s Health Day for more than 600 attendees with special motivational speaker

NEWARK, NJ (May 8, 2024) – Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, hosted the 10th annual Women’s Health Day “Healthy Women, Healthy Families” on May 4, 2024 at the Newark Airport Marriott Hotel.

“Women’s Health Day reminds us that our health matters. More than 600 women attended the expert panel discussion on women’s health and wellness, moderated by Atiya Jaha-Rashidi, MHA, RN, Chief Equity Officer and Vice President of Community Relations at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey .

The all-female panel of clinical experts from Newark Beth Israel Medical Center included Mahtab Ayatollahi, MSW, LCSW, director of psychiatric emergency screening services; Nisha Kumar, MD, Division Director of Internal Medicine, Beth Prime Care and Adult Health Center; Rebeca Kane, DNP, APN-BC, CCRN; AVP, advanced heart failure treatment and transplantation and outpatient cardiology; Erika Lannaman, MS, RDN, Registered Dietitian, Community Wellness Services; Norma Milanes-Roberts, MD, obstetrician and gynecologist, physician-in-chief, Centering Pregnancy; and Yvette L. Murillo RN, FNP-C, Oncology Nurse and Sickle Cell Program, Frederick B. Cohen, MD, Comprehensive Cancer and BloodDisorders Center.

Dee C. Marshall, CEO of Diverse & Engaged, an award-winning business owner, influencer and thought leader in equality, diversity and inclusion, delivered a motivational speech focused on the importance of wellness. She shared her inspiration on why she takes care of herself and invited attendees to find their inspiration as well, challenging everyone to take responsibility for looking good, feeling good and being good.

The breakout sessions were hosted by representatives from twelve outpatient clinics at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, providing information on cancer prevention, geriatric health, dental health, nutrition, physical therapy, HIV/AIDS, prenatal care, heart health, community care. health, lung cancer, insurance and weight loss management/surgery. Hundreds of attendees took advantage of the afternoon wellness activities, which included free health screenings for blood pressure and diabetes risk assessments, wellness advice and fitness demonstrations. These screenings were intended to increase awareness of common health conditions and encourage proactive health care among women.

A popular wellness and wellness session was the Paint ‘n Sip with active participation from nearly 100 “artists” during Newark Beth Israel Medical Center’s 10th annual Women’s Health Day on May 4, 2024 at the Newark Liberty Airport Marriott.

In addition to the health care screenings, the stress-relieving wellness activities include reiki, massage, yoga, meditation, three sessions of a Paint ‘n Sip class and a financial wellness seminar. Dozens of vendors and women entrepreneurs from the community were invited to showcase their products that promote wellness, what some might call “retail therapy.”
