Ex Swift Current Resident Faces Arrest Warrant In BC For Animal Cruelty – SwiftCurrentOnline.com

On May 2, an arrest warrant was issued by the Duncan Provincial Courthouse for a former Swift Current resident with a history of animal cruelty charges.

Tanisha Kendall (Perrault) and Rhees Kendall were first visited by BCSPCA on August 2, 2023 and are each facing nine charges of animal cruelty from Ladysmith, BC and a hefty fine of over $89,000.

As of October 31, 2023, 177 animals were removed from their care, including dogs, cats, goats, chickens, quail, ducks, snakes and rats.

Tanisha and Rhees also made four surrenders between October 31, 2023 and November 14, 2023, transferring 46 animals to the BCSPCA, including dogs, cats and chickens.

From August to October last year, complaints against the Kendalls continued to be received by the BCSPCA Animal Helpline, with people raising concerns including that the animals were not fed regularly, were underweight and left unattended for long periods of time.

Complainants also noted that there were barking dogs, sick animals, animals in general and deceased animals at the Ladysmith rental property.

In January of this year, the BC Farm Industry Review Board confirmed that returning the animals (except for two snakes) to the Kendalls would not be in the best interests of the animals, and would instead put the animals back in a situation would bring misery and even more suffering.

The board also determined that Tanisha and Rhees are liable to the BCSPCA in the amount of $88,234.82 for the Association’s costs incurred in caring for the animals.

Swift Current Online contacted Tanisha and Rhees on December 6, 2023, and the pair have denied all allegations of animal cruelty:

“This has turned our lives upside down. Our daughter is afraid to come home because she is afraid of what will happen if the “scary BCSPCA people” come back. Years of work and care went into the animals we had. It is incredibly unfair for the BCSPCA to be able to come and take whatever they want for any reason, even if it is not justified or fair to the animals.

They took animals and pets that have been with us for several years without any problems. We love all our animals and do everything we can to put them first, despite all the untrue and unfounded rumors people have spread online.”
