Tourist lecture on permanent community growth and success – SwiftCurrentOnline.com

The Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce welcomed a friendly face from out west last night.

Jace Anderson, executive director of Tourism Medicine Hat, was a guest speaker at the Swift Current Curling Club’s latest Chamber on Tap. He shared his insights on growing a rural community through tourism, and how that can be applied to Swift Current.

In particular, he was able to highlight how when targeting certain specific individuals, it can be helpful to partner with local businesses to get them involved in the community.

“I’m really excited about that process in that it fundamentally challenges how we approach the messaging, the communications and the strategy behind what we’re trying to achieve and who we want to pay attention to,” Anderson said.

By working to target those who are already considering moving to a community, the local tourism board is not only encouraging a trip to the city to consider a possible vacation there, but also giving them the opportunity to use the incentives of a permanent move.

“So it’s not intended to serve everyone,” Anderson said. “But it is absolutely designed to serve two important segments of our community.”

These two segments are the direct relocators and the HR recruiter. Small business owners looking to hire someone to get into the community. These two groups are the coal in the furnace of the engine that Anderson has driven with his tourism campaign. He has achieved great mileage with this.

“We received great feedback from the partners we wanted to serve and continued to see opportunities to fund next steps and marketing initiatives that drive usage of the content and materials,” said Anderson.

Anyone who missed Anderson last night will get a chance to see why this program could work for them as a local company today at the 49 x 110 conference at the Living Sky Casino.
