Manipur CM slams “homegrown western groups” for opposing illegal immigration measures in the state

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on May 8 that state authorities have detected a large number of illegal immigrants in the region. He said 5,457 individuals were identified, of which 5,173 registered biometric data. The discovery has prompted urgent action from officials, with deportation processes already underway.

The Prime Minister also said that certain homegrown groups were identified in the context. These groups, he said, are based in Western countries and criticize the steps taken against illegal immigration by taking a communal tone and promoting them as violations of religious freedom.

Taking note of the situation, Singh stressed the need to stop the growth of more such groups as it poses a threat to the survival of the indigenous population.

On the microblogging site Biometric data has been registered for 5,173 of them. The deportation process is underway. At this crucial moment, we have noticed that some homegrown groups based in Western countries have criticized the steps taken against illegal immigration by taking a communal tone and promoting them as violations of religious freedom. This is a situation where the survival of indigenous people is at stake and we will not allow it to continue.”

The Manipur CM took a jibe at certain groups and parties from western countries and said that they only had objections to the actions taken in Manipur but remained silent on the stance of western countries against illegal immigration.

He also said: “Ironically, this lobby is silent on the stance of Western countries against illegal immigration, but objects to the actions taken in Manipur, India. This selective outrage raises concerns about the agendas and propaganda pursued by these groups with separatist tendencies.”

He called out the selective outrage that has led to speculation about the underlying agendas and propaganda of these groups.
