The President recalled Dr Wazed’s support to Bangabandhu’s family

President Mohammed Shahabuddin said on Wednesday that a nuclear scientist of international repute and the husband of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the late Dr. MA Wazed Miah, provided continued support to the family of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who stood by their side in the time of uncertainty in 1971.

“In 1971, amid the extreme uncertainty of the Great War of Liberation, he (Wazed Miah) stood with the Bangabandhu family and gave them courage and strength,” he said in a message on the occasion of the 15th death anniversary of Dr MA Wazed Miah . .

Recalling the memories of this famous nuclear scientist, the head of state said that despite remaining close to power, Dr. Wazed was a simple and selfless man, reports BSS.

On November 17, 1967, he married Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of the Father of the Nation, he added.

The President prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of the career scientist who died on May 9, 2009.

“On the fifteenth anniversary of the death of internationally renowned nuclear scientist Dr. MA Wazed Miah I pay my deepest respect to his memory,” he added.

Dr. Wazed Miah was born on February 16, 1942 in Pirganj, Rangpur, he said, adding that his nickname was Sudha Miah.

Sudha Miah had extraordinary talent and was fond of learning since childhood, which reflected in his education and professional life, he said.

He was a pioneer of nuclear research in the country, the president said.

“He has made significant contributions to nuclear research and has also served with skill and success in various positions, including the post of Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission,” he said.

“The area of ​​his research work was very extensive,” he added.

He had conducted research in fundamental interaction and particle physics, nuclear and reactor physics, solid state physics, electromagnetism, health and radiation physics and renewable energy, the president said.

The President hoped that Dr. Wazed Miah’s ideals will help build a science-oriented nation.

His works will inspire the new generation, he added.

In addition to scientific research, Wazed Miah has quietly played an important role in national politics, Shahabuddin said.
