Parsippany, New Jersey, USA, May 8, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Bloomage, a global leader specializing in hyaluronic acid and other bioactive innovations, has released its new sustainability report. This new ESG report builds on Bloomage’s four previous annual social responsibility reports and reflects Bloomage’s commitment to a scientific and systematic ESG strategy, marking a new era for Bloomage and its sustainability goals.

Commenting on the release of the report, Sinan Zhu, General Manager of Bloomage ESG Strategic Management Center, said: “ESG provides companies with a more comprehensive development direction, eclipsing traditional financial performance measures. Over-reliance on financial performance can cause the company to stray from its values, emphasizing short-term profits while neglecting long-term development.”

Bloomage supports innovations in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food using a range of high-quality bioactive raw materials. Starting with sustainability as a core value, Bloomage has pioneered the industry with its microbial fermentation technology, replacing the need for animal tissue (cock combs) and significantly reducing the carbon footprint in hyaluronic acid production.

In 2023, Bloomage strengthened its commitment to ESG by establishing its ESG Strategic Management Center. For the past two years, the company has been conducting greenhouse gas inventories for its factories in China based on the international standard ISO 14064 for greenhouse gas management activities.

Report highlights

Carbon reduction and offsets

Bloomage’s rooftop photovoltaic and biogas generation equipment collectively generates approximately 3.52 million kilowatt hours annually, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2,008 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The use of external biomass heating reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Environmentally friendly packaging

Bloomage has completed the research and application of sugarcane-based plastics in packaging materials, which can reduce CO2 emissions per tonne by approximately 3 tons compared to traditional petroleum-based plastics. Bloomage also uses the more environmentally friendly BOPP film instead of PVC material for certain packaging films to avoid the harmful substances in PVC.

Transport optimizations

Bloomage uses reusable material transfer tanks to transport materials, reducing the use of polyethylene plastic bags. In addition, the company has optimized the link between equipment to reduce material turnover and thus save the use of packaging materials.

Recycle and reuse

Bloomage has obtained the FSC-COC certificate, which allows the purchase of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified packaging materials. More than 95% of the external packaging materials purchased by Bloomage for functional skin care products are FSC certified. In addition, Bloomge actively investigates ways to recycle. Between 2020 and 2023, Bloomage recycled 13.62 tons of packaging material.

Bloomage’s sustainability report marks the company’s renewed commitment to increasing social and environmental responsibility. In the future, Bloomage will continue to improve existing systems and explore new methods to reduce CO2 emissions in product development, production, packaging, transportation and recycling, achieving CO2 reductions throughout the entire product life cycle.
