In a disturbing development, 14 members of the Hindu family belonging to the Thori Marwari community and residing in Yaro Lund village in Ghotki, Pakistan, have been forcibly converted to Islam at the infamous Bharchundi Dargah in Sindh.

In particular, Bharchundi Dargah in Sindh’s Daharki, led by Mian Javed Ahmad Qadri, is the largest site of vigorous conversion of Hindus in all of Pakistan.

These forced conversions are orchestrated by radicalized clerics, who operate with impunity under the protection of Pakistan’s socio-political system. Converting non-Muslims is seen as a sacred duty by a significant portion of Pakistani society, leading to the coercion of individuals to adopt Islam.

Sindh, the largest Hindu-populated region, is the most affected. The radical clerics responsible for these conversions often boast of increasing the number of converted individuals and aim to Islamize entire populations within specific areas within a specific time frame.

For example, a fanatic named Pir Ayub Jan Farooqui has vowed to Islamize the entire Hindi population of Umerkot (Amarkot) and Tharparkar districts. These illegal conversions therefore pose a direct threat to the religious freedom and rights of minority communities in Pakistan.

What is particularly alarming is that these conversions often target children, who may have little to no understanding of religion, further exacerbating the problem.

With due consideration, the continued existence of such practices without any challenge underlines the Pakistani establishment’s complicity in perpetuating religious discrimination and violating the rights of minority groups.

Therefore, the situation calls for urgent attention and action to protect religious freedom and protect vulnerable communities from coercion and persecution.
