Best spots in Bangalore for a bite of viral desserts from around the world

From wiggly cat-shaped puddings to flaky croissant-cookie combinations — Bangalore’s dessert platter features a range of delicious viral creations. Here’s where to head to evade the FOMO and get in some good shots for the ‘gram.

Besides dance challenges and relatable comedy skits — doom-scrolling often leads to a video (or two) of influencers digging into a decadent sweet treat. Often these are contemporary renditions of classic creations — plated to ‘gram-worthy perfection. In 2024, this included French pastry stuffed with creamy-sweet deliciousness from Paris, melt-in-the-mouth milk-based Korean pudding shaped like a feline, and fresh strawberries bathed in cocoa goodness straight from the streets of London. And if you can’t find time to jet to any of these destinations just yet, all you need to do is book a cab to one of Bangalore’s popular coffee shops and restaurants — which have lined up a viral dessert (or two) on their menus. Here’s our pick of the lot.

Places in Bangalore with 2024’s most viral desserts on the menu

Croookie, Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters

Sometime in 2022, Stéphane Louvard of Boulangerie Louvard in Rue de Châteaudun decided to marry two products into one — croissant and chocolate-chip cookie — to make a whole new treat, chocolate chip ‘crookie’. The treat caught on with diners and remains a popular part of the menu. Soon enough, social media caught on — with influencers and food experts raving about the viral dessert — a fusion of flaky pastry with indulgent, buttery cookie dough. And while most home bakers hopped on the trend — going viral on social media — a few bakeries experimented with it as well. This includes Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters in Bangalore. The popular artisanal coffee destination keeps things classic, bringing together its famous buttery croissants with decadent chocolate cookie dough. Pair this with their range of caffeinated concoctions — espresso to sea salt mocha.

Pinwheel Croissants, All ‘Bout Coffee

While we’re on the subject of croissants, we’d be remiss not to rave about the wildly popular pinwheel creme-filled creation that took New York (and social media) by storm. According to multiple reports, Scott Cioe — the executive pastry chef of Lafayette Grand Café & Bakery in Lafayette St — is to thank for the dessert snack. Scores of customers line up for a bite every day. In Bangalore, you only need to get a cab to Cooke Town for a taste of this viral dessert. Cozy coffee shop All ‘Bout Coffee has four flavors on offer — Chocolate Oreo, Strawberry Milkshake, Blueberry Lavender, and Vanilla and Strawberry — each flaky, creamy, decadent, and pretty as a picture. The Korean Cheese Buns, Donuts, Iced Teas, and Coffees come highly recommended as well.

In South Korea — which has a thriving cafe culture — scores of influencers made a wobbly, cat-shaped milk pudding with black eyes go viral. While it isn’t certain who’s to credit for the creation — multiple reports point to Cafe Florida in Gwangju, whose post of the same went viral. Since then numerous eateries across the globe have experimented with the dessert — giving it their unique twists with varying flavors and toppings. In Bangalore, it’s only accessible through reservations at TFG Cafe, which has two options. Kia comes with mango sauce, coconut crumble, coconut chips, and pineapple. Koko is a chocolate number with strawberry sauce, chocolate crumble, and fresh strawberries. Each of these is sweet and silken-smooth.
