By Millicent Ifeanyichukwu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on Lagosians to make it eco-friendly for the new corps members posted in the state.

Sanwo-Olu made the call during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch A, Stream II orientation, which was held on Tuesday at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) temporary orientation camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.

He also urged corps members to ensure that the service year would have a meaningful impact on the socio-economic and political development of Lagos State and Nigeria in general.

“I implore you to accept your posting in any part of Lagos and see it as an opportunity to participate in the community development programs, impact your host community and leave an indelible legacy.

“Your predecessors did this in areas such as healthcare systems, educational services and social services, just as your services may be needed in the above.”

Sanwo-Olu, represented by Mr. Ibukun Dosunmu, Director of General Services, Lagos State Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, said the state government would continue to recognize and reward outstanding corps members at the end of the service year.

Baderinwa urged corps members to be good ambassadors of the plan, family and communities in their places of work.

She said it was fundamental for them to obey the rules/regulations of NYSC.

“Let the team spirit you developed during your camp guide your behavior, put aside tribal feelings,

“Wishing you a productive year of service, remember that any erring corps member will be punished in accordance with the bylaws of the NYSC.

“As these young patriots move into the next phase of their service year, being the primary and secondary assignments, I am optimistic that they will perform excellently after being properly briefed on the principles of the plan,” she added .

The coordinator expressed his appreciation for business organizations and collaborating partners.

She said some had a commanding presence at the orientation camp, sponsoring social and sporting activities that added color and variety to the purpose of the course.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some corps members and camp officials were awarded for their outstanding performance during the three-week orientation course and received letters of commendation during the event. (NAN)
