NTT police chief welcomes Vatican ambassador to Kupang

Kupang (ANTARA) – East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police Inspector General Tahi Monang welcomed the Vatican Ambassador to Indonesia Piero Pioppo immediately upon his arrival at El Tari Airport, Kupang on Wednesday.

Monang explained that Ambassador Pioppo is visiting Kupang city to participate in the ceremony for the transfer of the title of Archbishop of Kupang from Petrus Turang to Hironimus Pakaenoni, scheduled for Thursday (May 9).

In addition to the NTT police chief, Pioppo was also greeted by officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the NTT provincial government. Leaders of local military camps were also present during the welcome ceremony.

The Inspector General noted that the arrival of the Vatican ambassador marks a crucial moment for Catholics in NTT province, especially those living in the capital Kupang.

Monang said he views the ambassador’s visit as the Holy See’s appreciation and support for the ordination of the Archbishop of Kupang, a sacred and historic event for Catholics in the province.

He affirmed that the NTT Regional Police personnel are ready to take the required security measures and provide full support for the smooth conduct of the inauguration and ensure the safety of all people attending the planned event.

“We are prepared to provide security to accompany the series of activities during the ordination of the Archbishop of Kupang,” he affirmed.

The police officer further stated that Ambassador Pioppo’s visit to Kupang City is a historic moment that is expected to encourage all relevant stakeholders to work together with the aim of supporting all religious events taking place in the province.
