7 best watches that hit the Met Gala 2024 theme

Met Gala 2024, fashion’s biggest night, has blessed us with breathtaking ensembles followed by creative accessories. This year’s annual Met Gala dress code, The Garden of Time, is inspired by JG Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. The story is set in a garden overgrown with flowers that can manipulate time.

With the passage of time being central to the theme, celebrities could easily reference it by adding some of the most exciting timepieces in the world to their evening looks.

Fashion critics and enthusiasts will agree that timepieces are now considered the centerpiece of any outfit. For example, shirts are now slightly higher waisted, so that men can proudly display their beautiful wrist accessory that would otherwise remain hidden. Likewise, women combine their bracelets and other wrist accessories with chunky watches, taking them with them as much as possible.

Sebastian Stan wore a Cartier crash

Sebastian Stan attended the 2024 Met Gala in an all-black ensemble with floral embellishments by Ami Paris. Black sunglasses and Cartier’s classic Crash watch brought the whole look together exceptionally.

The watch stood out for its twisted oval case, especially the dial, which has an unconventional shape. This resulted in Cartier’s iconic Roman numerals also becoming elongated and distorted. The overall design concept bears a striking resemblance to the watches depicted in Salvador Dalí’s surreal masterpiece, ‘The Persistence of Memory’.

Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky exuded a contemporary and sophisticated look as they graced the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala. The Thor actor opted for a monochromatic neutral ensemble, perfectly complemented by Chopard’s Alpine Eagle watch in rose gold, adorned with a diamond bezel.

The Alpine Eagle luxury watch collection effortlessly combines sporty-chic elements with a sense of assertiveness. Inspired by the majestic Alps and the impressive power of the eagle, these automatic men’s watches are available in different materials, including stainless steel, titanium, ethical gold and two-tone combinations.

Jeremy Strong rocked a Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari

Like Hemsworth, Jeremy Strong kept it minimal with a head-to-toe white color scheme with a floral effect on one side of the suit and tried to keep with the Met Gala 2024 theme. He also put on a sleek Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari ultra-flat wristwatch.

This iconic horological creation is a lovechild of the long-standing collaboration between Richard Mille and Ferrari, which was shaped by their shared pursuit of perfection. The collaboration began with the introduction of a remarkable ultra-thin timepiece, the RM UP-01 Ferrari. At just 1.75mm thick, this sleek watch is a remarkable display of technical skill.

It represents a fresh take on watch mechanics, where functionality plays a crucial role in determining aesthetics.

Ushers luxurious Jacob & Co Ruby Billionaire III

Usher wore diamonds on his wrists at the 2024 Met Gala, literally. The singer wore a black tuxedo with black polka dots and red rose embroidery, along with a Jacob & Co. Billionaire III watch in Ruby hue, which added a wow effect.

The Billionaire III watch was born from Jacob Arabo’s love for diamonds and is first and foremost a masterpiece of luxury horology. The white gold bridges of caliber JCAM39 are made to hold the 57 baguette-cut white diamonds that connect them to the case.

This hand-wound timepiece features a top-level tourbillon, positioned vertically next to a sizable cylinder, and can operate continuously for as many as 72 hours, setting a new standard for a watch of such greatness.

Lil Nas X knows how to have fun at the Met Gala. This year, the singer wore a bejeweled white jumpsuit with a strong emphasis on diamond accessories, including a vintage Piaget watch from the ’70s.

The white gold model has a malachite dial in green color and a seamlessly integrated bracelet decorated with a striking bark pattern, sourced from vintage store Analog Shift. You would expect the singer to go for brand new watches, but the choice of a vintage watch captured the true essence of Piaget.

The RM 07-02 exudes femininity through its graceful tonneau shape, crafted from colored sapphire, which is enhanced by a movement in 18k 5N red or white gold and decorated with numerous diamonds. The watch’s dial, whether decorated with mother-of-pearl, jasper or pavé-set stones, exudes a refined elegance that remains unmistakably contemporary.
