Linen is ZEGNA’s favorite material to shape the future

With linen as the pièce de résistance, the power of nature blends seamlessly with the vibrancy of metropolitan cities to reinforce ZEGNA’s commitment to circular fashion.

Oasi Zegna embodies the profound dedication and eternal legacy of ZEGNA linen craftsmanship and the ZEGNA Spring Summer 2024 collection was a stunning revelation of this achievement. Presented in the blazing heat of the Italian sun in Piazza San Fedele, the cutting and poignant message – nature will reign supreme – was made vibrant.

192 bales of linen – equivalent to approximately 10,242 T-shirts – traveled from Normandy to Milan, effectively representing the amount of effort put into harvesting the material. While that represents a total of 3,100 kilograms, ZEGNA’s commitment to embodying fashion’s circular ethos will magically transform these linen bales into the Oasi Lino and make their way back into the production chain. Every bale in sight is a reminder of this sacred promise to Mother Earth – an overview of the steadfastness that comes with ZEGNA’s central mindset of “L’OASI DI LINO,” or the “lightness of being and behaving.”

Before the renowned label ‘Ermenegildo Zegna’ was renamed, the Italian house was always clear about its preference for a simple and refined men’s wardrobe. The tailor-made suits that are always demanded have a refined look, but as menswear continues to steer towards a new era of tailor-made suits, the helm of artistic director Alessandro Sartori finds a new system in the embrace of casual and ease – rewriting the codes that form the wardrobe of modern power dressing.

“It is the idea of the uniform that leads to non-uniformity. The suit as a matching jacket and trousers is no longer applicable. Nowadays, everything goes with everything, and this gives the customer the freedom to play with shapes and shades,” says Sartori. “Lines are deceptively simple: we hide functional elements in the construction, allowing texture to emerge. The overall fluidity makes it all look calm and luxurious, but the tension in the details, the richness of colors and the freedom of infinite combinations suggest that it is not quiet at all.”

The looser fits of the Spring/Summer 2024 collection allow for greater freedom of movement, with softer gray, orange and pink tones that move away from the traditional palette of brown, blue and beige. The real look was reserved for the impressive linen play in the garments. Linen gabardine, linen faille, compact linen knit, compact Blue Flower linen and satin linen, among other fabrics such as jute oxford, washi paper, raffia, silk, recycled wool granite and bonded calfskin, were a simultaneous tribute to ZEGNA’s past and a nod towards a safer, greener fashion future.
