Henkel adhesive technologies, Kraton CorporationAnd Dow Inc. have achieved product carbon footprint reductions for two of Henkel’s North American flagship final packaging products: TECHNOMELT® SUPRA 100 and TECHNOMELT® SUPRA 106M.

TECHNOMELT® SUPRA 100 LE and TECHNOMELT® SUPRA 106M LE formulas designed with bio-based alternatives reduce the adhesives’ environmental footprint by 25% compared to the older products. This smaller footprint is made possible by a proprietary formulation of Kraton’s SYLVALITE™ 2200 biobased tackifiers, developed with RErevolution™ resin ester technology and Dow’s AFFINITY™ GA polyolefin elastomers. The lower emissions formulations maintain equivalent performance and food-safe properties that customers expect from the older designs.

At Kraton, we understand the importance of sustainability in today’s adhesive and packaging markets,” said Minco van Breevoort, president of Kraton Pine Chemicals. “Providing Henkel with our RErevolution™ technology and bio-based tackifiers reflect our long-standing commitment to innovative solutions that meet customer needs and reduce environmental impact. We are proud to drive the transition to sustainable adhesive and packaging solutions.”

Sustainable products often have a higher price due to higher production costs and the increased regulatory burden for reporting Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions. By investing in lower carbon formulations, Henkel, Kraton and Dow are meeting consumer demand for sustainable packaging and making these solutions more feasible for consumer goods manufacturers. As a result of the combined investment, TECHNOMELT® SUPRA 100 LE and TECHNOMELT® SUPRA 106M LE will be available to existing customers at no additional cost.

“Henkel has led efforts in sustainable solutions that promote emissions reduction, circularity and safety. Sustainability is not only our responsibility to future generations, but is an integral part of our long-term success as a company,” explains Ulla Hüppe, Head of Sustainability at Adhesive. Technologies at Henkel. “By working with Kraton and Dow, we are able to offer lower emissions solutions and gain new priority in the industry.”

“We believe in the power of collaboration with like-minded companies that share Dow’s values and ambition. With Henkel and Kraton we not only forge partnerships, but create a sustainable ecosystem. We are proud to set a precedent of working with other industry leaders to drive change and deliver value to customers,” said Haley Lowry, Global Director Sustainability, Dow.

Kraton’s RErevolution™ is an innovative technology platform designed to deliver improved color performance and oxidative stability in biobased tackifiers such as Kraton’s SYLVALITE™ 2200. The technology provides a sustainable alternative to fossil-based products, allowing formulators to achieve high biobased content and a low environmental footprint . Dow’s AFFINITY™ GA provides advanced performance for extreme packaging temperatures. The TECHNOMELT ® The product portfolio includes other bio-based formulations, as well as innovative low temperature hot melt adhesive formulations.
