Religious sisters honored at annual mass

Bishop Michael F. Burbidge celebrated an anniversary Mass for religious sisters May 4 at St. Mary of Sorrows Church in Fairfax.

During the Mass, the three jubilarians – Sister Benedictine Mary Ellen Black, Sister Franciscan of the Eucharist Lucia Treanor and Sister Theresa Hkawn Htoi Kareng of Our Lady of La Salette – renewed their vows.

Sister Black celebrated her 75 years of service, while Sisters Kareng and Treanor entered their 25th year as women religious.

Nearly fifty sisters attended the mass and subsequent lunch.
