A member of the security apparatus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), James Agbey, has alleged that as part of the ongoing limited voter registration exercise being undertaken by the Electoral Commission across the country, some officials of the Ghana Immigration Service have been asked to leave posts.

He alleged that these officials, who are particularly stationed in places considered border towns in NDC strongholds, have allegedly been asked to relocate.

This, he added, is intended to enable the EC, in collaboration with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to influence the voter registration process.

In a statement made available to GhanaWeb, James Agbey said this information is something he is aware of due to intelligence.

“I, James Agbey, acting in my capacity as an officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have become aware of some clandestine activities by the Electoral Commission (EC) to undermine the ongoing limited registration exercise ahead of the December 7 elections.

“In fact, there is ample evidence directly linking the commission to registration fraud. Similarly, an intelligence report on the limited registration of the Electoral Commission (EC), which began earlier today, points to official blame and manipulation in the allocation of election officials. for the selected EC district offices.

“I also have the authority that immigration personnel stationed in the border towns in the NDC strongholds be asked to abandon their posts to pave the way for the NPP and the European Commission to collude and manipulate the registration,” wrote he.

James Agbey further referred to the previous limited voter registration, where he said: “Everyone recalls with disappointment the reported widespread irregularities and manipulations that marred the last limited voter registration exercise.

“Predictably, we have sufficient evidence pointing to a planned manipulation targeting registration fraud in the current exercise.”

He then warned the EC and its Chairman, Jean Mensa, to ensure that they do not influence the process or they will be met directly by the NDC.

Meanwhile, the EC has started limited voter registration across the country from Tuesday, May 7, 2024 to Monday, May 27, 2024.
