The South African Communist Party (SACP) strongly condemns the storming of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt at dawn on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 by the apartheid Israeli settler state. “We call for a comprehensive international isolation of the Israeli setter state in every aspect of international relations and cooperation.

To ensure accountability and justice for the Palestinian people, the leaders of the Israeli settler state, who ordered and presided over the genocide since its inception, must be arrested and prosecuted at the international level. This also applies to the citizens of every other country involved in the Israeli army and its genocidal campaign,” SACP Secretary General Solly Mapaila said as he denounced the escalation, which is dangerously aimed at civilian population protected by international law.

Mapaila stressed the importance of an immediate permanent ceasefire. We stand up for the freedom of historic Palestine and reiterate our solidarity with the Palestinian people in their just struggle against colonial occupation, land expropriation and other injustices. The SACP reiterates its call for a complete severance of ties with the apartheid Israeli settler state, a regime that has defied the International Court of Justice and the United Nations.

Since October 2023, the Israeli settler state has killed more than 34,600 Palestinians, 75 percent of whom are children, women and the elderly. Children make up more than 14,800 victims, while women make up more than 9,800 victims.
