Gambling on video games possible? Sure!

It had to happen at some point, and the past few years have been that point. I’m talking about legalized gambling. Nowadays you can hardly watch or listen to anything without being tempted to put money on something.

You can bet on so many things, from the color of Gatorade for the Super Bowl winning team to the number of penalties called during a game.

So now that I knew all that information, I guess this was inevitable too. Video game betting.

Restaurant and entertainment chain “Dave & Busters” has announced that they will soon allow gambling on the games played in their facility through their app.

For those who have never been to a Dave & Busters, each location features a full restaurant and bar, along with a full arcade. Dave & Buster’s calls their arcades “The Million Dollar Midway”.

The move could run into trouble before it ever gets off the ground, at least in Illinois. A Democratic senator there is trying to “nip this in the bud” because he says venues like Dave & Busters don’t have the proper safeguards in place.

The opposition to video game gambling says there is no way to ensure that placing bets on video games can be done safely and responsibly. The bill to make this illegal has bipartisan support in Illinois.

Another reason why some people don’t support this move is that places like Dave & Buster cater to families, and those opposed think this could change the environment and make it less attractive to families with young children.

The company that makes the software that powers betting on Dave & Buster’s app has said that most bets on its software platform are around ten dollars.

I’m not sure how quickly this can become a reality, but it’s likely that there will be many people who want to make their voices heard on this issue before all is said and done, meaning things can never happen quickly.
