Kristi Noem’s treatment of animals is hurting GOP finances

The May 4 GOP fundraiser in Colorado featuring South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was abruptly canceled due to threats stemming from her recent admission that she had euthanized her 14-month-old dog, Cricket.

Nancy Pallozzi, chair of the Jefferson County Republican Party, expressed disappointment in the cancellation and initially viewed the timing as opportune with the upcoming release of Governor Noem’s book, “No Going Back.” However, escalating public outrage over Noem’s treatment of animals raised concerns about the safety of attendees, site staff and the governor himself.

Pallozzi revealed that the county organization and the Denver West Marriott, where the fundraiser was planned, received numerous threats, including death threats, prompting a joint decision with Noem’s office to prioritize security.

Despite not taking a position on the public reaction to Noem’s book, Pallozzi lamented the financial loss caused by the canceled fundraiser, highlighting the negative impact on the local GOP’s fundraising efforts.

Governor Noem’s actions detailed in her book, particularly the euthanasia of her dog and a goat, have impacted her political ambitions, including possible consideration as a running mate for former President Trump. However, her brash attitude during a recent event indicates a determination to weather criticism and portray herself as resilient in the face of adversity.

Noem’s suggestion in her book that possible action against President Biden’s dog reflects a doubling down on her controversial position, drawing even more scrutiny and raising questions about her suitability for higher office.

In an interview, Noem appeared to defend her actions, citing alleged incidents involving Biden’s dog and exuding confidence in her political future while advancing the well-being of her state.
