Faribault Softball falls to State Powerhouse in a battle

The Winona Winhawks are a perennial superpower in Class 3A fastpitch softball. On Monday night, the Faribault Falcons gave them everything they wanted in competitive play.

The #4 ranked Winhawks pulled away late to win 5-1. The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning at North Alexander Park in Faribault on a Rylee Sietsema double that scored Regan Dregenberg.

That score held until the 5th inning, when Winona scored two runs. Olivia Poulin homered and singled for two runs batted in.

Sietsema might have gotten tired towards the end of the match. The senior pitcher threw 135 pitches, striking out 81 with 4 strikeouts, 5 walks, 7 hits allowed over the 7 innings.

Lauren Kreckow pitched for Winona and allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked one.

Winona was aggressive on the basepaths, racking up six stolen bases.

Sietsema had two hits and Olivia Smith and Jamie Adamek had the others for the Falcons.

Faribault will host Albert Lea on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, with a first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
