Man was shot in the face while sitting on corner sofa in Harlem

A man was shot in the face on a street corner in Harlem on Monday, police said.

The 61-year-old victim was sitting on a bench at the corner of W. 154th St. and Frederick Douglass Blvd. when the gunman approached him just before 2:05 p.m., officers and witnesses said.

“There were three or four guys sitting on a couch and two of them started arguing,” said a witness, who asked not to be identified. “When (the victim) hit the ground, pow, he shot him in the face.”

Bystanders scattered as the gunman took off on foot southbound on Frederick Douglass Blvd., the witness said.

Medics rushed the injured victim to Harlem Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition.

Witnesses told the Daily News the corner is rife with drug use and trafficking.

“That bench is infamous,” says a man who lives nearby. “It’s so bad they should make a movie about it.”

There were no immediate arrests as police worked to track down the shooter.
