Medical Tourism: StarCare unveils multi-specialty medical facility in Lagos

Indian Consulate General in Nigeria, Shri Chandramouli Kern, has expressed his hope for strengthened bilateral ties between India and Nigeria in the field of quality healthcare services.

He made the pledge at the launch of StarCare International Hospital, a leading provider of primary and specialty care surgeries in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Kern reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in various endeavors.

He said the unveiling of StarCare in Lagos marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

According to a statement from the hospital, the ceremony was attended by Oba Lateef Adams of Ikate Kingdom, Surulere, Lagos and Fayoade Adegoke, the Commissioner of Police of Lagos State.

Kern, the Honorary Consul General of the Consulate General of India, Lagos, and Mr. Sanjay Jain, President of ICA, also celebrated the introduction of advanced surgical procedures in the country.

According to the hospital, more than 200 guests from different sectors were present at the inauguration, who expressed their sincere wishes for the hospital’s success.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Ashraff Mohammad, Chairman and CEO of StarCare International Hospital, a US-trained orthopedic and spine surgeon, to revolutionize the Nigerian healthcare system.

He outlined plans to introduce state-of-the-art medical facilities and advanced technology, along with a team of internationally trained and experienced doctors from India and Nigeria.

Mohammad highlighted the introduction of cutting-edge surgical procedures such as minimally invasive surgeries, laparoscopic surgeries, laser proctology surgeries and laser spine surgeries.

He also identified endoscopic spine surgeries, cosmetic gynecological surgeries, bariatric surgeries (weight loss surgeries) and arthroscopy procedures (sports medicine) – services that are rarely available in the country.

He highlighted the hospital’s mission to stem the tide of medical tourism from Nigeria by offering world-class healthcare at StarCare International Hospital, on par with leading destinations such as the US, UK, Dubai and India.

He said: “By raising the quality of healthcare to international standards, we aim to reduce the need for Nigerians to seek medical treatment abroad in countries like the US, UK or India.

“StarCare will become a cornerstone in Nigeria’s medical landscape, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to everyone here at home.”

He further assured Nigerians that senior consultants would be available 24 hours a day at the facility to ensure continuous access to expert care.

In their remarks, other dignitaries also praised the expected positive impacts of the hospital and reiterated their support to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Nigeria in the field of healthcare.

The Commissioner of Police, Adegoke, congratulated the StarCare team and highlighted plans for collaboration between the hospital and the Lagos State Police Command in healthcare delivery.

Meanwhile, Oba Adams conveyed his best wishes to the hospital and encouraged Nigerians to utilize the facility for the highest level of medical services.

Mohammad led a tour of the facility, showcasing its state-of-the-art infrastructure including the outpatient department complex (OPD), inpatient wards, private rooms, ICU-NICU complex, OR complex and delivery rooms.
