PDP brought J&K out of turmoil and ended gun culture: Mehbooba Mufti

Rajouri, May 3: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said her party has taken Jammu and Kashmir out of turmoil and put an end to gun culture during her rule.

She also stated that Jammu and Kashmir, as a mini-India, clearly represents the secular structure of the country. Mehbooba was addressing a roadshow in Budhal area of Rajouri.

She led the roadshow as part of the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat, from where she is contesting as a PDP candidate. “India is based on a secular structure and Jammu and Kashmir clearly represents it and so it is mini India,” the PDP president said.

She said that people from all religions and walks of life are living together in the areas of Jammu and Kashmir and that too in every nook and cranny.” Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim majority nation, but people of all religions also live here in a communal atmosphere,” Mehbooba said.

She called on people to vote for her on May 25 when the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat goes to vote, saying she is campaigning on the basis of the work of the People’s Democratic Party and not on the basis of religion and caste as is being reported done by some other political parties.

She further claimed that PDP has done a lot of work in Jammu and Kashmir and fulfilled people’s aspirations. “We have done a lot of work during the three years we have governed, but it is also true that there is still a lot of work to be done as three years is not enough,” she said.

The PDP president added that it is her party and its founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who took Jammu and Kashmir out of unrest and gun culture and ushered in an era of prosperity.

“There was a gun culture in J&K and the situation was such that a man without an identity card could not go on the road and it was the People’s Democratic Party that took J&K out of this situation.” She said adding that to boost the state’s economy, many reformist steps have been taken, including even opening border routes.

Mehbooba stated that if elected, she will advocate people’s issues and problems in the highest democratic institution (Parliament).
