Bangladesh for ‘Joint Business Task Force’ with Gambia

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Saturday proposed forming a “Joint Business Task Force”, coordinated by the top business organizations of Bangladesh and Gambia, to expand trade cooperation between the two countries.

He made the proposal on Friday during a bilateral discussion with his Gambian counterpart, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, on the sidelines of the 15th Preparatory Meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers in Banjul, Gambia, a Foreign Ministry press release said in Dhaka.

During the meeting, the Gambian Foreign Minister commended Bangladesh’s remarkable success in the agricultural sector and expressed his intention to expand trade cooperation between the two countries.

He also expressed deep appreciation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her solidarity with the Muslim Ummah in hosting Rohingyas displaced from Myanmar in Bangladesh.

Tangara also thanked the Bangladesh government for its financial support in the genocide case against the Rohingya.

The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh congratulated the Gambian Foreign Minister for chairing the 15th Preparatory Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the OIC and expressed his hope to work together to enhance cooperation in various areas of the OIC improve during the presidency of The Gambia.

Hasan expressed satisfaction over the existing friendly relations between the two countries and said The Gambia could recruit Bangladeshi manpower for its agricultural sector.

The two foreign ministers also emphasized the strong role of the OIC in resolving the Palestinian issue.

Foreign Minister Masud Bin Momen, Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr Javed Patwary, among others, were present at the meeting.
