Army Summit on May 8 to recognize veterans in the progress of the country

The Indian Army will host a summit next week with an aim to showcase the capabilities, potential and skills of military veterans as a driving force for the country’s progress, officials said on Saturday.

The summit, organized by the Army Welfare Placement Organization (AWPO), will take place on May 8. The event promises to provide a comprehensive insight into how veterans can serve as engines of growth for the nation, a senior official said. . It will highlight the capabilities, potential and skills of military veterans as a driving force for the country’s progress.

With the participation of business leaders, military veterans, leading industry figures and seasoned entrepreneurs, the summit aims to bridge the gaps in training, orientation and preparation, paving the way for veterans to make significant contributions in diverse sectors of the economy, the military said.

Since its inception in 1999, the AWPO has played an important role in facilitating the seamless integration of veterans into civilian careers while upholding the spirit of service and dedication that defines the Armed Forces, the AWPO said.

The AWPO serves as a bridge between the skilled workforce of veterans and the opportunities available in business and the public sector, officials said.

The summit will focus on three key themes: harnessing the potential and experience of veterans, the skills required to meet the needs of the public and private sectors, and unveiling opportunities for veterans in India’s growth story. Discussions are also planned on many other macro and micro issues affecting the veteran community.

Military veterans represent a deeply trained, motivated and exceptionally skilled resource capable of seamlessly transitioning into diverse industries with minimal orientation, the Army said.

Approximately 60,000 skilled and driven soldiers, whose professionalism, leadership, technical and management skills have been painstakingly honed through extensive training, retire each year, the report said.

These veterans, at the peak of their capabilities, developed through high-pressure on-the-job experience and a goal-oriented mindset cultivated over years of service, embody a key national asset that must be effectively deployed to propel India’s growth story, it said army.

The AWPO enables veterans to develop entrepreneurship programs, government jobs and employment opportunities in friendly countries.

It is pertinent to note that the AWPO has recorded a 30 percent increase in its placements in the last two years, the Army said.

The bulk placements include 3,000 on the Indian Railways, 1,200 in dedicated freight corridors and around 3,200 as drivers for the Bihar Police, which are still being worked on, the report said.

Some have also been posted to the Port Trust at the ports of Kolkata and Kandla, and as observers to the National Testing Agency.

In its latest effort, the AWPO was able to place 10 veterans at All Nippon Airways as a pilot project. They have been working in Japan since March this year.

Entrepreneurship programs have empowered around 900 veterans in various areas, the report said.
