HAYWARD – A fugitive mother wanted for allegedly torturing her daughter decades ago is behind bars at the Alameda County Santa Rita Jail. Hayward police recently arrested Greisy C. Valencia, 70, of Whittier, while she was in Alameda County.

One of Valencia’s three children, a daughter (then) 11 years old, was found wandering the streets of Manteca in September 2002. The girl suffered a brutal beating and severe burns to her hands.

The girl could not remember her address or telephone number. Investigators found she had been bitten, scratched, kicked and had hair pulled from her scalp. Investigators determined that the victim was regularly abused by her mother. The girl’s older brothers were also abused, but not as seriously.

Seven years of abuse reportedly began when the girl was four years old. Doctors noticed scars on her hands, face and back from previous serious injuries. The girl’s injuries were apparently caused by an open flame, lit cigarettes and a hot iron.

Valencia had been evading police since 2002, after Child Protective Services took custody of her children. She stopped showing up for work and her whereabouts remained unknown until recently.

New information prompted the Alameda County District Attorney to issue an arrest warrant for Valencia. She was arrested on April 11 at 1:30 p.m. Valencia was booked for torture and causing grievous bodily harm. A judge denied bail for the release of Valencia, who is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on May 8.
