Peshawar uplift program aims to restore historic markets

PESHAWAR: As part of the Peshawar Uplift Program, historic markets such as Chowk Yadgar, Meena Bazaar, Misgaran Bazaar, Peepal Mandi and others in the heart of the city will be restored, with an aim to revive their ancient allure and boost tourism strengthen.

The decision was taken at the request of Asif Khan, Member of National Assembly (MNA) of NA 32, who approached Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud to head the project. Stressing the importance of preserving Peshawar’s rich cultural heritage and promoting tourism, the MNA urged action.

Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud promptly directed the Director General of Peshawar Development Authority to commence repair work on City Circular Road, GT Road, Dilzak Road and Ring Road, besides installation of sodium street lights. Moreover, the project engineer of Peshawar Uplift Program has been tasked to survey the markets and prepare a report on their renovation to restore their historical essence.

The aim of the project is to undertake comprehensive development efforts in Peshawar under the upliftment programme, showcasing the splendor of the city to visitors and celebrating its rich cultural heritage. Commissioner Riaz Mehsud reaffirmed his commitment to maximizing development efforts in Peshawar and assured that the city’s aesthetic appeal would be fully reflected. The renovation project, which is expected to boost tourism and economic vitality, will also preserve the historical significance ingrained in Peshawar’s venerable markets.
