Obituary of Jim Green
Entered into rest at Brockville General Hospital on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. James Stanley Green “Jim” 67 years old. Beloved son of the late Donald and Lois Green, of Lyn, Ontario. Dear brother of Frederick Green (Sharon), predeceased by a sister LuAnn. Uncle of Cory Green, Crystal Green, predeceased by Robert Green. Great uncle of Lucas, Nicholas, Christopher, Brianna and Emily Sturgeon, great uncle of Leighton. Jim is the cousin of Carole Bourret (the late Tom), the late Jean Earle (Howard), the late Gwen McWhirter (William), Alan and Ronald McClelland (Sharon), Donna Ryan (Bill), Lynda Derue (George), the late Phyllis Hunt ( Joe) James and Bud McClelland, Elizabeth Neven Borstmayer, Gladys Sagriff and Great Aunt Lillian Burns. Jim was the grandchild of the late Stanley and Edythe Green and will be missed by his numerous cousins.
In 1976, James graduated from the Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville. Over the years, James was a hard-working employee in the Brockville and Ottawa area, working for JA Johnson Shoes, Zellers, Performance Motor (Mazda), Tannis Foods, The Corel Center, The Canadian Employment and Immigration Commission, and at his returning to Brockville in 2009, he worked as a farmhand until his retirement in 2015. James never let the fact that he was deaf stop him from doing what he wanted. Doing. He enjoyed watching Nascar and Hockey. He had also been a bench staffer for minor hockey in Ottawa. Family and friends will have fond memories of attending hockey games to cheer them on. He is also known for keeping them all laughing with the humorous videos, images and stories he sends them.
The family would like to thank the palliative care team at Brockville General Hospital for their compassion, dedication and ability to overcome the communication barrier because Jim is deaf. Also a big thank you to Canadian Hearing Service interpreters Sarah, Renee, Courtney, Erika and Debbie who stood by Jim’s side to help him navigate his cancer diagnosis. The family could not be more grateful for all the love and support his cousin Elaine Pittman gave Jim in his final years.
A funeral service for Jim will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street E., Brockville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care or the Canadian Hearing Society would be appreciated by the family.
