OAKLAND — Two adults and two teenagers have been charged in connection with a Feb. 19 shootout in which dozens of shots were fired and five people were injured, prosecutors announced Friday.

The adult defendants, identified in a news release from the Alameda County District Attorney as Keeric Lamont Johnson, 23, and Joshua Smiley, 19, are charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, as well as shooting into an inhabited dwelling. Johnson is also charged with possession of a firearm.

The juvenile suspects have not been named, and authorities have not said what charges have been filed against them.

The shooting happened outside a corner store on the 3800 block of West Street in Oakland, authorities said. Police found 45 bullet casings and two firearms at the scene.

The preliminary hearing for Johnson and Smiley — where a judge will review the prosecution’s evidence and determine whether it is sufficient to sustain the charges — has been set for May 15, court records show.

At the time of the shooting, Johnson was on one probation sentence for a 2022 auto theft conviction, for which he received one day in jail, court records show. His probation expired on Saturday. He was arrested in Fremont on March 22, records show.

Smiley, meanwhile, has been behind bars since six days after the shooting, when police in Oakland arrested him on suspicion of carjacking and theft. He is facing a separate case in that incident, records show.
