Paul J. Giametta, 75, Norfolk

NORFOLK – Paul J. Giametta, 75, passed away on May 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born August 23, 1948 in Jamaica Queens, son of the late Joseph and Lena (Ancona) Giametta.

He married Janet S. Sherman on July 31, 1976 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Berg takes the lead.

Paul was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a line handler on the St Lawrence Seaway for 38 years, a tinkerer, a ship enthusiast and forever nostalgic about his youth growing up in Queens, New York.

He and his wife Janet married in 1976 and had three children. When asked what he wanted for a birthday or Father’s Day gift, Paul was known to respond with a funny but loving “Peace and Quiet” to his rambunctious children. His family takes comfort in knowing that he finally has this gift.

Paul is preceded in death by his father, Joseph, mother, Lena; and brother, Anthony.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet; sisters, Marie Rufa and Margaret Calecca; sons, Joe (Brittany), Andrew (Lucy); daughter, Leah; and five grandchildren, Paul, Maggie, Cate, Vinny and Iris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 6, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Parishville.

Memorial donations in Paul’s memory may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley or the American Alzheimer Association.
